Our Curriculum

TOPIC – World War Two

Writing

This half term we will be using World War Two to inspire our writing.  

In Year 6, we constantly strive to be ambitious and effective writers, creating texts with purpose which entertain and inform our readers and using our best vocabulary, spelling, handwriting, punctuation and grammar. Below are the year 5/6 statutory spellings.

Reading

In reading lessons we will be focusing on our VIPERS skills: vocabulary, inference, prediction, explanation, retrieval and summarising. We will be doing lots of practice of these key skills in preparation for this year’s SATs assessments.

Science

Autumn 1: Living Things and Their Habitat

Autumn 2: Electricity

Spring 1: Light

Spring 2: The Circulatory System and Diet, Drugs and Lifestyle 

Summer 1: Variation and Adaptation 

Summer 2: Fossils 

Mathematics

In Spring, we will be completing the following White Rose Units:

  • Fractions, Decimals and Percentages
  • Area, Perimeter and Volume
  • Statistics
  • Shape
  • Geometry – Position and Direction

Alongside Learning By Questions (LBQ), our Afternoon Maths sessions will focus on:

  • Place Value
  • Addition
  • Subtraction

P.E

Year 6 have Outdoor PE on a THURSDAY afternoonThey will need to wear:
– a plain white t-shirt
– plain black tracksuit bottoms or black PE shorts (no leggings please)
– a plain black jumper or tracksuit top 
– trainers

No logos or names on their tops, jumpers or bottoms please.

If you do not have a plain black jumper, children can wear their school jumpers as an alternative
